The Church on the Hill

Julie Colebrook

The Isle of Wight is a small island off the south coast of England.

It has a lot of history and is most well known as the dinosaur isle as many fossils, skeletons and dinosaur bones have been discovered there.

Many years after the dinosaurs, during medieval times, a small community chose a site at the bottom of a hill to build a church.

Stones and tools were brought to the site ready for building to start. However, overnight the stones and tools were mysteriously moved to the top of the hill.

The builders took them back down the hill. This happened night after night.

Eventually the community decided that it was God’s will that the church was built on the top of the hill. The area became known as God’s Hill. The church with some modifications is still there. The original site chosen is now known as Devil’s Acre.
