Poetry Day: Words We Carry Across the World

Poetry has a way of finding us—whether it’s passed down through stories, sung in lullabies, or scribbled in the corners of notebooks. It doesn’t matter what language it’s in—poetry speaks to something deeper. That’s why, this Poetry Day, we’re sharing poems that matter to us.

Some were written by our own members, others are old favourites brought from home. We’ve got words in Albanian, Italian, Tamil, Arabic, and English—each one carrying a little piece of where we come from and who we are.

We might speak in different tongues, but the urge to create, to share beauty, to make sense of our world through language—that’s something we all understand. Poetry reminds us that we’re more connected than we think. And today, we honour that.

So take a moment with these poems—read them slowly, out loud if you like. Let the rhythm of different languages roll through you. These aren’t just words on a page; they’re pieces of memory, culture, and heart. Poetry doesn’t ask us to be the same. It just asks us to listen.
