Rita Lima

My name is Rita Lima, and I am the creator and representative of the Brazilian Community in Waterford. My goal is to promote Brazilian culture, provide support to other immigrants arriving in Waterford, and facilitate their integration into the city.

Originally, I came to Ireland for an English exchange program in Dublin, intending to stay for just one year. However, it has been over nine years since I arrived here. During this time, I developed a passion for traveling and discovering new cultures, customs, languages, and foods. I love the connection that forms when interacting with different cultures, something I experience daily in my own home. I am Brazilian, but I also hold Irish citizenship. I am married to a Polish man, and we have two Irish daughters, Isabella and Nicolle, who were born in Dublin. Our home is truly a cultural melting pot!

I take great pleasure in being part of the Waterford New Community Network. Through this network, I have the opportunity to give a voice to immigrants and the Brazilian community, promoting inclusion and diversity. This experience has been incredibly respectful, enriching, and evolving, while also providing genuine support to others. We organize many events with the purpose of learning more about Ireland and connecting with the local community.

I firmly believe in the biblical principle of loving your neighbor as yourself, and I see this as a path to evolve and build a better community for everyone.
